MB Tex repair?

Hello All
Has anyone had experience with repairing tears or punctures (such as getting into the car with a screw driver in the back pocket ) in their seat upholstery? I have just about given up on matching the color, beige, and my factory MB covers are otherwise good. If I'm convinced that the repairs work, I will have the covers re-installed using new foam pads.

Anyone have opinions or advice ?

I have had some luck with the vinyl repair kits from JC Whitney. Practice on something else before making the repair. I have used on my boat and my 70 280SE. My results were good but not perfect. Worth a try what do you have to lose if you are thinking recover anyway?

I would not do it myself. I would use a trim and interior shop that thinks they would get good results. My decision would be influenced by any experience shared here.

Make some calls to the independent repair shops in the area, perhaps ones you know and trust.  I'm sure they can give you a recommendation.

Some years ago, a neighbor bought a car for his son; vinyl seats.  The idiot previous owner used to throw lit cigarettes in the back regularly, so the back seat had many burns in the vinyl.  Some guy came to the home, mixed up the vinyl goo, matched the color, and used some texture sheets. The results were nearly invisible.  In the hands of the right people, it is pretty good.  The independents seem to know these kind of subcontractors as they care called in regularly to fix things like this; refinish alloy wheels; paintless dent removal, etc.
