Underhood Trouble Light
« on: June 22, 2004, 10:32:22 »
I debated whether or not to list this in the ads section, but figured, since I was not buying or selling, it would be more illustrative of some of the crazy stuff that is going on out there --

For those of you who have one of the original style lights, better lock it up! There is one on e-bay (2482391767)with the reserve met - at US$500!! (and I think the reserve was near 500, as one bid today was 480 with the reserve not met at that point.

I like to keep up on what is out there, but this one blew me away.

And if you are one of the really crazy people, there is still another five days left on the auction.....

I'm a Trouble Light looker, have not found one in my price range yet. I may never get one.

I believe Joe Alexander and Tom Sargeant have this type of light. I notice that when they showed their light to me, they never let me hold it. Wonder why?

The seller of the current eBay light is Roy Spencer of "our-sl".

This light went to $142 a few weeks ago when Roy first tried to sell it. $142 did not meet the reserve. I called Roy who told me that in processing hundreds of Pagodas and similar cars, this was the only example of this light he came across.

He said he was looking for $500. I thought he was crazy. The current bid on his re-sell shows he's crazy like a fox. He's getting his $500 and maybe more.

I'm not only surprised by the price but the condition of this example is not very good. Here is photo of pristine example that I saw at the recent Westbury Gardens show. The light was original equipment to a 220S sedan that was in a museum. The light remained untouched in the  trunk of the car.

The owner would not sell me the light even after I wrestled him to the ground trying to grab it  :o)

I watched two of these sell on EBAY, one was around $1100.00 and the second one went over $900.00. I have a brand new one with the round cable still with the protective wrap. I think Kaco still sells these with the flat wire. I have one of those also, it is nowhere near as nice as the old model with the round cable.
