Help with underdash stuff
«

At the risk of appearig ignorant to some and proving it to others, can someone tell me the purpose of the hole in the underdash panel on the driver's side (one on the passenger side as well) and the switch (button) next to it? I have a LHD 1968 280 SL Euro version automatic. Thanks again.

The hole is there to let cold or hot air enter the foot wells on each side when the grey lever on the dash is turned to the right (down arrow):
The switch is not original. I can't help you here, you should trace the wires.

I wouldn't be suprised if a switch in that position is some kind of isolator / security switch or button. I can't see any other reason for putting one right out of sight and reach like that.

Thank you both for you responses. Should there be a hose of some sort be attached to the holes to direct the air to the footwells. The PO had A/C but removed it duriong his ownership, so I am unsure of what, if anything, should be there.

No hose, just the "vent" hole.
