Becker Europa FM Volume
« on: September 10, 2012, 13:21:02 »
Having some issues with a Becker Europa.  When hooked up to my iPhone the volume is excellent, I can adjust as need be without any issues and the volume is generally great.  But, when tuned into an FM station through the radio I can barely hear anything with the radio turned completely up.  Any idea what the issue is and possible remedies?

Thanks,
Dom

Dom,

How have you linked your iphone to the radio? I assume it's through the cable that can be purchased which plugs into the back of the radio, with a cable that runs to a small box which is secreted somewhere in the glovebox or under the dash in order to allow connection via the 3.5mm jack? If so, the radio will be cut out when the 3.5mm jack is plugged into the female plug in the box. The only way to have normal radio volume is to unplug the iphone from the box that contains the female 3.5mm socket.

If your set up is completely different, I'm afraid I have no idea! ;D

James, that is super helpful albeit a little upsetting, since I loved the idea of having the ability to easily switch between iPod and FM.  It sounds as if when the rear plug is in it suppresses the FM volume and with no easily accessible way to the back of the radio I need to make a choice and stick with it for a few weeks...there are tougher decisions to make in life.  Thanks for your help and the quick reply.

You do not have to unplug from the back of the radio, just unplug the pigtail from the inline junction box. Once again assuming that is your set up.

disconect the ipad from the cable when you want to play the radio.

I bought a cable from Becker Autosound.
It had a bad connection in it (sometimes muted the volume of radio even when nothing was plugged into it).
They replaced it. I haven't put the new one in yet, but you might have a bad cable.

I'll have to try it out this weekend and see what it is.  Helpful information, thanks all.

Quite correct. That's what I was trying to say!
