Heater Hose / Engine part number?
« on: December 18, 2012, 18:57:47 »
I am trying to replace all of the rubber hoses on my car one at a time.   Thought I could order hose in lengths from Mercedes and install but up here in Canada they want part numbers for everything.

The fitting that screws into the engine block on my car is straight meaning that the hose would have to be formed to give the angle to head to the firewall.  The hose I have on the car does not appear to be a formed hose and just doesn't look right.   On the parts computer at the MB dealer, the fitting that goes into the engine has a bend to clear the FIP.   Does anyone know if the fitting I have in the engine (straight) is wrong or does anyone have a part number for a hose with a kink at the end?

I went to the MB shop and tried to order a heater hose (from firewall/heater core to engine block) and they have no number.   My car is European - does that mean a different part?

Thanks,  I am actually looking for the hose that goes on the other end of the heater core and and goes to the engine block.
It would go through #60 grommet.

Thanks,

On page 20 of the above link - the connector coming from the engine block is part number 44.   I have none of those hoses (95,96,99) as I have a direct hose to the heater rather than the one shown.

I think its because its a European version with no emissions items.

I went through this process a year ago, when I got the 280 SL. I replaced all the hoses, and there are indeed formed ones, and "by the meter" ones. I am traveling today and tomorrow, so am not able to check the part numbers. I do know that the hose by the injection pump from the heater core, is an odd one, and it also depends on the year of the car, as the were some changes with the warm running device pod, which I think changed the routing of the hose. . I am a little fuzzy on this, and would have to look at the car to give you a better answer. I am sure someone else will chime in before then.

Here is a picture of the hose on the car now - I would like to clean up around the fitting as there has been some leakage over the past 30 years since the new motor went in.

Its hard to see but the pipe coming out of the engine is straight and the heater hose has a very sharp bend behind the filter on the WRD and it actually hits the filter.

Ian,
it depends which engine you have, early or late 280SL. Early ones have the 90 degree nipple on the cylinder head and later ones are straight.
Early = engine VIN -> 983 10 004620 (manual transmission) or -> 983 12 007457 (automatic transmission).
Go to: http://www.sls-hh-shop.de/en/230-280SL-W113/50-Cooling-System/50-c-Cooling-System-280SL/
and click on "5" or "6" and it will show you the two different hoses with their Mercedes part numbers since SLS does not sell them.
On an early 280SL (see photo) you can use a straight rubber hose and it will look fine.

That is perfect.   The part number worked with the local mercedes shop database and one is on its way.

One of the hoses has a kink which will allow a proper flow of coolant.

Thank you.
