...at the Concours of America at St. John's, July 2012.  No, thank you, it is NOT an advertisement for car wax... :D

For what it is worth the wax was/is Zymol Carbon. Only because that's what I had.

I think the photographer did some magic to make it look better.  He's a pro.

Michael, are you suggesting that the photographer could do some improvement work on both the car and its owner? :D

Why yes.  Trust me on this Stan...on December 25th, I think you might find out for yourself!

Seriously, the guy had some massive camera equipment, and those large lenses in the hands of pros usually yield superb results.  A sunny day and some fill light from a flash, and it was a photographer's dream.  All I did, clearly, was stand there!

I only recently received this picture; they were going through hundreds taken, and thought I might enjoy a copy!

Michael,
You're being modest. I, and others, have seen your car in person, and it looks fantastic, just like the picture.

Should I be able to figure out what you mean by this?

Michael,
I hope that in March, when I expect that the restoration of my car is finished, I will be able to have a similar picture taken. I am not that worried about the car as I can already see that She would be a beauty again, but I am concerned about myself not being up to standards :D

Well, that was meant for Stan.  You see, Stan's wife bought him one of the very last Pagoda Style books but will not let him see it until Christmas!  Maybe he is looking around the house trying to find it!  Remember being a kid and trying to find presents?

In the book, of course, is, shall we say, "a little evidence" of some cars--and people too--being made to, um, look their best.  Some specialized digital tools were employed to that end... ;)

Michael,
you made a clairvoyant remark as far as my wandering around the house is concerned :D.

As a matter of fact, we spend Xmas in Paris in a huge period house, so my investigation is difficult as there many hiding options for the book. The information that it is one of the very last copies makes it even more desirable.

Fortunately, there are only a few days left before I start enjoying both the book and the personal message from the author :)

many thanks
Stan

Thanks for the answer Michael.

As a side note, maybe you should have put serial numbers on the book. A BIN, so to speak (Book Idenditication Number). Then those with the first or last ones can be especially proud.  ;D

That was considered, and rejected long ago.  First, it presumes there might be some inflated value to an early number versus a later number, or certain numbers, (like #1, or #113).  I don't believe there is.  By leaving them all unnumbered, they all have equal value.  Second, how does one allocate the numbering?  It was a task I chose not to take on!  Also, I paid extra to have each book sealed at the printer, to preserve it.  I would have had to undo all the shrink wrapping, or not bother to do it at all...

I did sign the books that a few (thankfully only a few asked, it would have been difficult to do all of them) asked me to, so there are a few of them personalized in that way.

Michael,
don't be so sure that your signing exercise is over :) I bet many happy owners among the SL113 Group Members would bring their copy to events if they knew that you would be there :). Just wait and see….

Oh, not a problem Stan.  However, in January of this year, remember, I had to get out--simultaneously (in fairness) nearly 200 copies to 15 countries. (search and you'll find a photo of all of them on a skid for transit)  At that time, signing all of them would have just added another [significant] delay and sent out the lynch mob!  Today is a different story!

Enjoy Paris, and may you and everyone else have a Merry Christmas!
