A new pagoda -- one piece at a time.

I guess I never really understood the meaning of a ground-up restoration on a Pagoda ...

(apologies if this has been posted before, could not find it in Search)

I have no connection to this work ... just found it interesting.  It's a 16min video of major metal replacement:

The shots in this video give us newbies very nice dissected views of the inner metals of our cars ...

I hope he follows this with the next episode of his rebuild.    Is this guy a member here?

 I echo Kemal…. very instructive, nearly every piece looks as it was touched or replaced. I am sure that -after this experience - for this person portrayed on some pictures, Pagodas have no more secrets. This is ieven more impressive that all of the work seems to have been done in quite basic conditions, no fancy tools or glossy floors.

It would be very interesting to have opinions from fellow members that are professional restores, whether they proceed the same way in such cases.

the secret is the spot welder that he has, that cuts down many hours of regular welding.

Regarding the spot welders - they seem to be slightly common at garage sales / swap meets.  I picked one up for $40.00 and another one was free as long as I put it to good use.  I ended giving the free one back a few years later.  They aren't even that expensive when new. 

All I can say about that video is wow!  That is way more work that I think I would want to ever attempt.  The guy had to work for next to nothing to break even on that one.   It took me almost 40 minutes to go over that video because I kept pausing and reversing.   

That is amazing.

Spot welders are indeed cheap, but the different array of arms hat you need are not!
Also drilling out the old spot welds requires special expensive drill bits and is not a nice job!
That's a great sequence of shots and shows the guy has great attention to detail but it was a shame not to see he finished article.
The opening shot was of a UK registered RHD car but he car in the sequence is LHD. This did set alarm bells ringing at first because one of the early shots is of the right inner sill and this is different ( and NLA) for RHD to accommodate the driver's right foot on the gas pedal.
Shame he's not in England as I have a vacancy for a man like him!

Amazing - and with the labor rates in Denmark, this must have been REALLY expensive. Don't know the guy and whether he's a member here, but will investigate :-)

Incredible! Those cars must be pretty valuable in Denmark to warrant that kind of effort.

Let say that cars they start from a high level i Danmark .
A new CLS AMG 63 costs 2.516.000 DDK= 2.973.000SEK
And the same car costs 1,134.000 SEK in their neighbor country Sweden!
But actually the prices on old cars like a pagoda are the same.

After your remark on RHD car turning LHD I took a distinctive pleasure yesterday re-watching the video. The only explanation I can imagine, if any, that he effectively used the RHD as donor (being a car with wheel etc on the wrong side) to get the correct LHD one ;). But seriously, maybe he wanted only to show various stages regardless of the body he was working on.

It would be great indeed to have the final outcome on video too. So, as Ulf offered to start investigations, I am waiting quietly to discover the culprit and have him confessed the acts he committed on both Pagodas ;)
