you may want to have a look at the car registry, which is a searchable list open to all members. It may contain the answer to your question
http://www.sl113.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Registry.Start

I have one of the last VINs of 280SL, ending with 23798, made in February 1971, about 70 cars before the last. I know that there is at least one member on this list here that has a car with an even later VIN number.

Congrats on your first post!

Looking at the "production statistics" page ...

http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/USModelYear

...it seems that your 280 SL was produced in December 1967 (a very early 280SL).

It looks like your car is already in the Registry...take a look at the car of Allen Penfield.
