Isn't it simply a 280sl, with just a 1963 plaque and European, pre-280sl front bumper?

Headlights, side indicator lights, headrests and a front windscreen with darkened top and the black plastic back of the mirror would gear towards late 280sl.
However, bumpers are contradicting the above and I am not sure what wheels there are, but it seems to me that they are with the double-piece cups? So it is confusing indeed :'(

It has the elegant swan neck side view mirror of the 230 but, the headrests aren't correct.

230 SL with added side markers and headrests? The hubcap/trim ring covers seem to be in place and the front turn signals are the thinner amber type of a 230. IMHO

Is it correct to have a seam in the soft top compartment cover leather trim?  I`ve never seen that before.

Nice car. Looks like a 230SL that had some "enhancements" during its restoration, including the side marker lights, the headrests and a new windshield. As noted, none of those is correct for a 230.

The interior (note the doors) is definitely a 230 interior. Would be interesting to know its history and build number. As an aside, one of the previous owners of my California car, a '67 230SL, had installed the side markers, presumably to make it look more like the subsequent 280SL. When I had mine stripped and repainted, I had them removed. One of the things I like best about the 230 is the clean lines and the side lights, be they U.S. spec or Italian, don't add anything to the look.

The 107s were seamed at the corners but the 113s were all one piece construction.
