modern airco install

Hi,

I know about the classic airco units installed in the W113.

But my question is this:
15 years ago I had a European car without airco (Opel Omega 2.5 TD). I had installed an aftermarket airco. Inside the car was nothing visible: only an electrical push button to activate it. It used the air channels of the normal heating. It mingled the air there. In teh motorcomaprtiment of course there was an extra heat exchanger in front of the radiator and a compressor.

Has anyone had a system like that installed in a pagode? Any experiences?

Hi Bob,
I recently installed a Vintage Air Compact in-dash A/C unit into my Aston Martin DBS.  It was a tight squeeze but perhaps not all that different from the W113.
It is purely a matter of the space available for the Evaporator and to that end Vintage Air sells a plastic "model" so you can test the fit prior to purchase. If you can physically get it in there, it works very well.  If you were prepared to loose your globe box, and prominently mount the glove box facial panel, then I'm reasonably sure you could get a modern unit in there. 
Its a job for the coming winter for me as well, but I think I will stick to their under-dash unit that looks similar to the original FrigiKing units.

Buds Benz in The Atlanta area makes a bolt on unit that works well. I added to my 70 280SE Cabriolet over  10 years ago and have no complaints.

Probably a classic styled  one like Buds Benz is offering is better to keep the value of the car. That one is probably a complete new kit, not an old one like the Fridgeking? Might be the best of two worlds.

Buds looks very similar to some of the Vintage Air ACs.
