I encourage US members who've never taken this kind of opportunity to do so.  I went in 2010 and had the time of my life. I spent two glorious days driving the back roads of the Black Forest just to the Southwest of where Willingen is.  Driving almost anywhere in Gemany is a pleasure.  On a previous trip we drove from Essen to Stuttgart with a stop to rent a race car and drive the Nurburgring.  BK and I are going back for our third trip.  The dollar is gaining value against the Euro and there may not be a better time to go to Europe for the foreseeable future.  Those who go will havegreat friendships and great memories forever.  Those who don't will not.

Any American member who wants to attend sans SL, I am driving mine solo from Amsterdam/The Hague and could use a co-pilot!  I'm an American expat living in the Netherlands. Send me a personal message if interested.

Ray,

I assume you did not have your Pagode shipped to Germany to do this tour, but instead rented a car, correct?

Have Just had confirmation that our application is being processed, our Pagoda is being containerised on Wednesday before shipping from Brisbane Australia rto Rotterdam
Believe we will be in the running for the distance award, after Willingen we are off to Switzerland to the Pagoda's new home.
Looking forward to meeting all over there.
Peter, where should we meet for the hand over of the Chivas Regal?

Peter,
How many halves are there in a Dutch bottle of wiskey?, ie, where's my half?
Stight change in our plans, shipping into Rotterdam at this time would be cutting things a little too close, by landing the 280 in Hamburg we gain another day, arriving on the 5th of August, still going to be a clsoe run thing, but what's life without the odd risk, also Hamburg is 14 lilometers closer to Willingen than Rotterdam.
Image below taken this morning at the port of Brisbane, my friend Richard Freeman CEO Tambua Freight, see www.tambuafreightlogistic.com.au shown  below suppervised the container loading and tie down.

Slight change of plan, our trusty shipping agent Richard Freeman has managed to have our container transhipped to a vessel going to Europe via the Panama Channel ariving Rotterdam on 27 th July giving us some extra time to unload and get hold of it. Also time to take it to Switzerland prior to going on to Willingen

Treedoc,
because I had planned to attend the event with my 230SL - and driving with my California license plates - I had tried to find such insurance but had no success. There is a mandatory accident insurance in Europe required for all cars (so called "green insurance card") and that one is available from a company in Luxembourg for about 120 Euro/month: https://www.ariass.lu/
If you plan to have a temporary Suisse license plate then perhaps the Suisse auto club might have insurance for the car.

The only other comprehensive (theft/vandalism) insurance company I found (http://www.tourinsure.de/englisch/index_e.htm) only insures cars younger than 8 years.
Good luck!

wonder if ADAC would be able to help you. They are more the breakdown end of things but I'd be surprised if they couldn't point you in the right direction

PM Tom Sargent - he's had his car over a couple of times and I'm sure he's been covered...
