Tom is a member here so can be found in the member list

ADAC more difficult as their site is mostly German and they are breakdown focussed but I gather that every one of the people who answers the phone speaks English!

WE ARE COMING :)!!!!

Last minute agreement made among members of our Polish Pagoda SL circle encouraged me to request and happily get on the list to fill the last - I am told - available places in the event.

Our five teams will start this challenging journey in Warsaw, drive through Berlin to Magdeburg through the A2 Motorway (Highway) and then, depending on timing, whether and other circumstances, select probably to continue on country routes directly to Willingen. All together, the event including the trip would take 6- 7 days and 2500 km (approx. 1650 miles).

Coincidentally, we happen to drive 5 280SL, one from 1968, one 1970 (Artur) and three 1971 models (including mine). BTW, I just realized that, if successful in getting safely to Willingen, our contingent will represent about 10% of the entire Pagoda SL Group representation:-)!!!

Needless to say that we are all excited about the forthcoming event, meeting virtual - so far - colleagues, but also quite concerned about potential mishaps during the trip that - both ways - will last longer than the Willingen gathering itself.

Peter and Achim: on behalf of our team, thanks a lot for all the help and patience in accepting our dispersed herd of latecomers and explaining some - otherwise clear - details.

My car will get just over 7km per litre of Polish vodka! ;)

(odd fact... Lays - they who make the potato crisps - sell the potato they don't use from the Poland plant to.... a distillery for vodka!)

No, you can't. I'll be bringing whiskey that Treedoc needs to share...

I think I've got a rough weekend coming up....  ;) but I'll need the drink to forget all the comments about the rust and spots on my car... I went to get the opinion of a professional to see if I could do some "cosmetic" repairs... but he wouldn't go there: "waste of your money, Guv'nor" (the equivalent in Dutch of course). Car is basically solid but in his professional opinion needs new front fenders (left and right) and rear fender right, and new headlight buckets. And then all the associated labour costs... JamesL, sounds a bit like your ordeal last year.

I explained I haven't got the budget for that right now (no income, in between jobs, and two studying kids, and a house too large and in the wrong price-range of the market to sell). He said: well, just drive it for another 4 to 5 years, enjoy it... you'll have to replace them anyway so it doesn't matter if it gets worse.

So, perhaps a good idea all that booze, to make me forget all the perfect cars I'll see at the event...

Peter,

bear in mind that in 5-6 years, if you manage to renovate your Pagoda, all those freshly done cars that you will see in Willingen will be in a definitely less good condition than this year. This is what I said to myself the day my Pagoda left the renovation shop: "Let's enjoy the car as she will never be as beautiful as she is today".

However, this doesn't preclude you from emptying your dose of Garry's Australian tribute once in Willingen;D (and be also beware of our Polish liquid that can be devastating after an excessive intake :D)

Peter,

Your alcohol problem just got a whole lot worse, we have a new whisky distillery down south in Tasmania which is reputed to be very good so am bringing a bottle over to get your expert opinion, would also be interested in James and our Polish friends have to say.
Scheduled to pick up our 280 in Rotterdam around the 30th of July

Geoff,

...aged in pinot noir casks? That's new to me... would it be similar to Aberlour (aged in sherry casks)? I'm saving some room for the tasting...
What are your plans after you pickup your car in R'dam?

Alfred,
Our 280 came from he USA so it will be good to drive it again on the correct side.
Re insurance SWMBO, a Swiss National, is going over a week early to sort that out.
After Willingen I will be coming home via LAX spending a week visiting clients of ours in your avocado industry.

Any members interested in putting together a caravan through NL to the Willingen event?  I am near The Hague and will be leaving the morning of the 8th. Would love to connect with other drivers and go as a group.

Martijn S and I are leaving on the 8th, but I do not know the details. I am flying in to Schiphol arriving the morning of 7 Aug, so I have a "catch the breath day" before we head to Willingen. I will send a separate email to him, to see if there is any chance on a hook up. (We will be just outside of Amsterdam in Mijdrecht).

We have planned to leave the UK on the 8th early afternoon on the Eurotunnel with a stop over in Eindhoven for the night at The Pullman Hotel.
On to Willingen the following morning.
We will be back at the Pullman Hotel on the following Monday night 12th August.

Jon and I will be leaving from Mijdrecht in the morning of Thursday 8th.

Brian, we could meet up somewhere along highway A12. I would suggest the Texaco gas station in Woerden.
Then we could hook up with Larry in Eindhoven.
