Dolly & I will be staying with her Mother in Gouda from 1st August.
We will leave Gouda on Thursday 8th in the morning, but have to travel via Arnhem
and Essen en route to Willingen, to arrive late afternoon.

We plan to return to Gouda on the Monday.

Happy Travels

BK and I arrive at AMS on Sunday morning 8/3 and will wander via Maastrict to Willingen on the evening of the 8th.  We will be driving whatever econobox we get from Europcar but we will be there!

Raymond, I always rent from SIXT found there rates the best so far. A little tip, pick up your car in the city rather then at the airport you will save airport taxes (I always take a taxi to the rental office).

Happy and safe travels ... enjoy!

NOTE for all those attending the European Event: on Saturday night a Gala event is planned. In Europe this typically means men in black dinner suit (tuxedo for Americans) and ladies in long evening gown.

Nowadays this is slightly more relaxed, but if you do not own a dinner suit, then plan on bringing a black or dark blue suit, white shirt and black tie or bow tie, and black shoes.

Ladies can get away with festive and fashionable cocktail dress and high heels...

But please be aware that in Germany you are more likely to feel underdressed than overdressed.

Dear all,

further to my previous note, Achim has corrected me.  I was incorrect about my assumptions on the Gala night. Achim's mail is below.

I am sorry for any confusion I have caused... and should you have now packed wrongly and departed, I am definitely sorry.

Dear Peter,

'Thanks for your message
Don't worry,
it's not that strikt.
We should not appear there in old shabby jeans and sweater but in good casual dress.
A suit is definitely fine, a tie also but it does not need to be black or dark blue. A tuxedo is definitely NOT necessary.

Ladies in an adequate way, long evening gown is not necessary but a bit of "chic" would suit them nicely.

Best,

Achim

Rick, a meeting point in Eindhoven is a little bit out of the way for me... I'll probably go direct and reasonably early, so that I have plenty of time to talk to everyone in Willingen.

Larry,

Do not pack it in the boot (trunk)
We have just arrived in Holland (via Essex) and lots of rain, to find some very wet
luggage, Dolly is not best pleased with me or the Pagoda - and now a further shopping trip
is my forfeit.........

Everytime we've had a Euro-meeting the weather forecast was not so good, yet it turned out to be very nice in the end. Thumbs up it will be the same this time.
See you all there!! ;D

Rick I'll call you up this week.

For those who leave on Friday,
Rick and Paul meet at the Van der Valk Hotel in Eindhoven around 10 am and we'll have breakfast there (Hotel Eindhoven, Aalsterweg 322 5644 RL Eindhoven ).
The hotel is situated next to the highway.
Looking forward seeing you again.

Five Pagodas 280SL are leaving Warsaw (Poland) on Wednesday early morning, with the hope of arriving near Berlin in the evening and to Willingen late Thursday…. ??? ;).

Each way will take 1200 km through very picturesque landscapes including the Harz mountains and forests.

keep some cold beer for us on arrival to cool us down ;D

My car has been in the shop getting the engine overhauled and a bunch of other mechanicals fixed and refreshed since January. The work was finished last month and it passed inspection two weeks ago, but the Dutch motor vehicles department was a bit slow in getting the registration papers to me, which I needed to obtain plates and my insurance card. Almost thought I would have to cancel my Willingen plans, but alas, the papers arrived yesterday, and the guys at the Van Dijk shop came through and got plates made in 24 hours. Just got word that they are on the car! I just picked up my insurance papers, and my 230SL is ready to go.

I plan to leave The Hague in the morning, but because I need to break in the overhauled engine, I am going to avoid the expressways and autobahn until I have another 500 km on the odometer. This is my last-minute plea if there is anyone going to Willingen via the Netherlands, who would like to take the scenic route. Google Maps estimates it will take about 6 hours from here, but I figure it will be worth the scenery.  Would be great to have another driver or two who want to take the road less traveled with me.  Let me know!

I'll be taking lots of pics and I'm sure others will as well.  To get it started, here's my 230 with her new Dutch "old-timer" plates ... ready for the trip tomorrow. Hopefully, it won't be raining like it is today!
