My car has been in the shop getting the engine overhauled and a bunch of other mechanicals fixed and refreshed since January. The work was finished last month and it passed inspection two weeks ago, but the Dutch motor vehicles department was a bit slow in getting the registration papers to me, which I needed to obtain plates and my insurance card. Almost thought I would have to cancel my Willingen plans, but alas, the papers arrived yesterday, and the guys at the Van Dijk shop came through and got plates made in 24 hours. Just got word that they are on the car! I just picked up my insurance papers, and my 230SL is ready to go.
I plan to leave The Hague in the morning, but because I need to break in the overhauled engine, I am going to avoid the expressways and autobahn until I have another 500 km on the odometer. This is my last-minute plea if there is anyone going to Willingen via the Netherlands, who would like to take the scenic route. Google Maps estimates it will take about 6 hours from here, but I figure it will be worth the scenery. Would be great to have another driver or two who want to take the road less traveled with me. Let me know!
