Doc, like my mother always said, "Be careful what you wish for, it might come true..."

You might never make it home again...

You are welcome to stop here.  Not that far from Sombra, but I won't work you too hard--food and drink will be good.  :)

Dan - you must, repeat must, schedule this tour to visit us in the Florida Keys so you go all the way to mile marker 0 down in Key West. If you wait a couple of years my Pagoda may also be there.

oohhhh......... it sounds like a must do. Having places to rest and hang out for a while is the only way I could make this work. Might also be looking for driving partners from time to time. I figure at least one month to do it.  Sept. sounds just about right

I'm hoping to meet up with as many of you as I can. Mike, I think I can make it over sooner than that.

Love to have you here, just a few miles north of DC.  Seems it would be on your way down to P-50 at Williamsburg in mid-September.  Be here for a weekend and we can do sunrise Cars & Coffee (nice variety from a blown TC thru 2CV delivery to high-end exotics) over in VA, then Sunday give the nearby "Church of the Holy Donut" a visit: usually everything from Ferraris to fire trucks.
[Much appreciated your recents posts regarding the near-disaster with the 6.3.  Sure hope that was a historical episode, and so did not involve the concours-level car you mentioned a few months ago.]

I felt awful about the 6.3 but we were able to fix it. The car is one of the better examples you will find anywhere. The owner; one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

Maybe I'll do the trip in two segments; East coast tour and then West coast the year following. Not that I don't think I could make it but I might not have the time do do it all at once.

'' Passage to Bangkok '' is all about drug use. For a rock band, the guys from Rush are strangly low key. You never hear anything bad about them nor are they into the stuff that took a lot of bands out which is strange they would write something like that. I happen to like that song even though it saw almost no airplay.

Yup, blasting across the desert, I'll have to play that song at least once. My favourite band right now is '' The Trews ''   Check them out, you'll like them too.

Michael: could you change the title of this thread? The current title doesn't cover the topic very well  ;D

Perhaps it should be something like "Dr Benz doing house calls for R&R" ...

There are two different things here...with all due respect the thread was hijacked (s'okay) and has become "Dr. Benz's Excellent Adventure" or something along those lines.

But, he has to get in the car and DO IT, not just talk about it.  He's been quite reluctant to venture across the border to the big, bad USA...though he lives nearly in sight of it!  ;)

OK.........

I suppose it looks like a hijack even though it wasn't intentional. Maybe we can split this one.

I've been planning this trip for quite a while so it's not a new idea. It takes more time and effort to put something like this together than you might think and I already have a lot more going on than you'd probably expect.

I have been to the Sates quite a bit lately and out of the country as well. We went to the DR last January to visit Pablo Tapia and his new restoration facilities. Very impressive place - I plan to go back this November. We had one of his guys up here a week ago for some training. I was in Toronto and the Falls a week ago and back to Toronto this past Sat for the spring auction so I'm not sitting around much these days.

There are many people (myself included) who will welcome you.  It is a massive journey, agreed...probably larger than one can expect or even plan for.  That's what will make it fun.  Let me know when you come here and I'll hang my Canadian flag outside!  You know, the one you gave me!

Dan,

why don't you consider a bigger picture as a next step: a European tour with all Stuttgart, Essen etc, and of course Warsaw (Poland please not wisconsin :D). You must discover the country of your son-in-law to be. I don't promise any vodka, since you don't drink, but there is enough goodies to cater for you and your Pagoda.

If you make it as far as the west coast and northern California, it would be great if you could stop by for a visit. I will have a space in the garage for the "red rocket" so our two cars can reminisce:-)

I'll take a sip once in a while but I have to be careful with my pain meds.  Not my son-in-law, he's the BF of my niece. Who knows when they'll get married......... ::)

I'd like to visit the lands of my fore fathers somewhere in France. Poland sounds interesting........ good sheet metal guys I'm told.

I'd say we could probably do the East coat tour together or maybe part of it. We could get quite a following during the tour which would be a blast. We did this with several 190SL's a couple of years back up in Niagara and it really was a lot of fun.

Hey! I just noticed that I'm on post 3,000...... not sure if that's good or bad :-\

I have relatives in Alberta, BC, and a sister who lives in LA. Must be someone I could stop and see. ::) I will get there at some point. Would like to see as many as I can.
