Part number for chrome surround (bezel) on righthand tail light

Hi, have tried this in th electrical section and got no replies, surely someone can comment?

there is someone in NZ selling a brand new rear taillight chrome surround.  I have asked if it is a genuine MB part and the seller has said the number 2235R is shown on the inside of the part.  Can someone confirm that this is the right part plse? I also seem to remember some discussion about the length of the studs that are embedded in the die casting being different for early and later W113 models?

I looked in my 230SL parts book and there is no separate surround listed as a part, only the tail light as a whole.  Same applies to the other suppliers who all show no seperate suround for sale.  They do have the lenses of course.  The number quoted does not appear to be an MB number.  I have not heard of the different length threads on taillights

The separate surround would be for the 280 style lights with replaceable lenses. The threaded studs on these are 40 to 50mm long whereas those on the 230/250 style surrounds are 50 to 60mm. I think the difference relates to the different bulb holders - the 230/250 versions must be 10mm thicker than the 280 versions, necessitating a longer stud to get through. Apart from the different stud lengths the surrounds appear identical and are all numbered, on the upper inner corner, 2235R (or 2235L). It looks like the threaded studs could be extracted and replaced with longer ones if necessary but you'd only need to do that if you're building repro 230/250 style lights.

I stand corrected, Just checked a couple of 230SL lights I have and they have the 2235 L and R numbers on the inner side but my parts book is quoting a 113 number for the light as a whole.  Can the surrounds be purchased separately?

I think they could be purchased separately Garry but I haven't tried. Anyway, new ones would probably cost twice as much as a good rechrome.

I ask as I had tired recently and had come up with a big blank.  Could not find a seller of the surround only and ended up purchasing a very good second hand one but have a slight mismatch between one brand new OEM and the second hand one.
