1970-72 sedan rear end ratios: 6 vs. 8 cyls.
« on: May 16, 2013, 20:20:30 »
I keep seeing 1970-72 250 Coupes and sedans for sale in my area, with 4-speed manual transmission and twin carburetor in-line 6 engines, for not much money. Can someone tell me the rear end ratio of this particular model? Would they make a good transplant candidate for my 280 SL's low and slow 4.10 rear? I'm well aware that the 1970-72 4.5 V8 have the most common donor rear axle (I forget the ratio), but those are usually north of $10K and less common.

The 250 coupes  (w114 body) rear end will not work on our cars, they have two half axle shafts and a separate diff.

Hello,

There are the W114 Chassis 250C, and 250CE cpupes (1968-1972)  which have different suspensions altogether. Those rear ends will not substitute. Then there are the W111 chassis 250SE coupes  (1967 -1968) .  These suspensions are the same. However the ratio in these cars is the same as your W113.
