missing hood ornaments?

While watching the film CABARET last evening with my wife, I noticed something odd.

There are four or five clips in the movie that have the characters motoring around in  elegant 30's era touring cars and a snazzy roadster.

I carefully looked for, but failed to see, the Mercedes star hood ornament on them. What gives?  Anyone have any info about this? How could they NOT be Mercedes-Benz?

Interesting...it was filmed in Munich in 1972, maybe the cars were hard to come by? Maybe they were something else? Surely there would be some other cues to look for...

Perhaps Mercedes wouldn`t pay for "product placement" in the movie so the producers removed them from the cars.
