At this moment I have a 230 sl with the correct dash panel for fitting Radio and clock. I mean the one with the small opening for radio. Included with the car was a non-working Mexico (small panel), without its amplifier, mounted in the correct panel. This panel is, although not 100 % scratch free , painted in the right colour.
Now I have some choices:
1) installing a modern radio (big opening) and to cut the hole bigger in the original panel. Seperate buy a new panel for 230 sl (but where, don't find them) and keep it seperate with the nonworking Becker, incase a new buyer would like that.
2) Buy a 280 sl panel and let it paint . And keep the original and nonworking radio stored away.
3) install the modern radio deeper inside, so face is after the panel. And buy a closing panel with 230 sl on it (where to buy?)
For all 3 options I don't know a source for the panels.
Now a modern radio is installed in the glovebox, but it is hard to reach. And the remote control (infrared) doesn't work when the glovebox is closed. Driving around with open glovebox is not nice, so I would prefer one of the 3 options above.
Since i always get wise advices here, I am open for your ideas.
best regards, Rudy
PS the so called retro looking modern radio's are to my taste not so nice looking, so in that case a modern radio is only the same evil
