HELP - weather stripping
« on: June 27, 2013, 02:01:31 »
Hi.  Well, did I goof.   :(  I was so eager to install my windscreen that I neglected to do my homework.  I had 2 men come and install the glass as it seemed pretty challenging.  Anyway, I installed the glass without first intalling the chrome pieces that wrap around the A columns.  The men are coming back tomorrow morning to take the glass out and wait while I install the chrome.  Now I'm faced with another dilemma.  Do I have to put the weather stripping under that chrome when it goes on, before reinstalling the glass?

Should I be installing the weatherstripping at the same time?

Does anyone have a photo of where the stripping goes, top and bottom?  The stripping I got from GAHH is tapered at one end.  I'm not sure where that end goes.

I will be grateful for any help with this.  I don't want to cancel the install as they can't get back again for a couple of weeks.

I don't have any pictures to show but in the middle of the rubber seal there should be a slot that the "T" shape aluminum molding fits in to, take windshield out of place with the rubber seal, place the aluminum strip in place then put the whole thing back on the car.

I used a small amount of grease on the rubber to help the aluminum strip go through without pushing a lot, what ever you do don't force anything.
Make sure you have the joining pieces in place before installing.

Good luck.

Thanks, Shaun.  The crisis was averted this AM when the glass guys came and did an out/in, all in about 30 min.  While they had the windscreen out, I installed the chrome wrap-around.  The tail end of the weather strip does tuck under the wrap-around but there is enough play to let one slip it up underneath without having to remove the chrome.  So if you wanted to replace it, you would not need to remove the windscreen.  Hurrah!!   :D   :D  Another watershed point crossed successfully.  (Though with a bit more expenditure than necessary.)
