Another Milestone Passed
« on: July 28, 2013, 20:56:40 »
Today, bright and early before it got too warm, we took our car for another outing. It was a glorious morning and as usual we hated to bring the car back home as the car (and it's owners) are always eager to go an extra mile or two. It was a remarkable drive for another reason because we passed the 4000 mile on the odometer since getting our SL back on the road. After all the years of benign neglect our poor car had, I never dreamt I would see this day. I hope all of you are having as much enjoyment out of driving your SL's as we are. And to those who have yet to get your car roadworthy, your efforts will be well worth it.

Thanks Garry, impossible to take a bad picture of these beautiful automobiles.
Also glad to hear those early British licence plates were not screwed down on the bonnet of the XKEs :)

Just off topic a bit but I had mine printed on a sticky backed  plastic that could be peeled off with difficulty. I think many we're actually painted on!!!

My car has been in San Diego for two year know. I call my Mechanic to ask if I still own a Pagoda he say yes you do.
My car is safe in doors on a lift  at his work and we are  ass he say taking one Elephant at a time. Only mechanical
work is being done  at this point with the help of David Gallon it is coming and seat and the new seat belts and factory
rest for safety and the new type seat belts that real in. since I am not  in a rush and the car is safe on a rack inside his shop.
I have to take down the boxes of parts I have collected and put them in storage after I do an inventory of what I have.

Next year the carpeting and seat get done and maybe a paint job.

7 miles (as the crow flies) from Coloma and we take our SL for a spin on hwy 49 all the time. Great road for these cars! And yes, we have a quite a few of those cursed "digger" pines on our property. They came with the land and we have chopped down a few over the years.

I'm in Meadow Vista, up 80 from Auburn.  Once I get my radiator rebuilt I'll take a ride down to Coloma 'the place that started the 49er Gold Rush.  I've driven by many times in my truck to pickup grapes in Plymouth passing through Placerville.  I'm itching to put the top down, with the heater off, and take my wife for a glass of wine at Gold Hill Winery.

Another milestone passed today, 74K on the speedo! The rational side of me says I shouldn't be driving the car so much as it might diminish its value, the impractical side (the side that is winning) says have fun and drive it every chance you can which I intend to do as long as the left knee holds out :) Down to Costco for gas this morning and back home up through El Dorado Hills. A little hazy but still a beautiful day for a drive. Hope all of you got in a ride today as well.

As we approach the end of my 5th summer with my 230 SL I have more than 6500 miles added since I bought it.  I have been driving about 3-4 times a week this summer.  I get smiles by the mile.  So far mostly trouble free driving...
