Interior color
« on: September 04, 2013, 03:50:40 »
Hello ,this spring I purchased a 1970 280sl. I am looking at installing new seat covers and carpeting. My data card indicates that the exterior color is tobacco brown, which it is, and the interior is beige mbtex.. I have looked at the color samples of the suppliers, but I have not found the beige interior color. I called Buds Benz and was told that all the interior colors that were produced are listed, but my beige is not. I have had color samples sent to me from the company in California but none match.
Can someone help me please.

Ron

Does it match any of the colours in the Tech Manual.

 http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/UpholsteryCodes

They are listed by the Data numbers so it should match although the colour you see bay vary due to computer.

Thanks Garry.
Yes the color is there, 141 beige mbtex, but why can't I find it at one of the suppliers web sites?

I dont think any of the suppliers list by the correct MB number and you will need to just keep asking each of them to send their sample for the equivalent of 141 beige 8000  MB Tex.  Most are happy to provide samples but it is a bit of a PITA going to each and getting them to send out the bits.  Suggest also try the Classic Centre in CA.

Maybe someone on here has been able to get a match for the 141 with a supplier?

Ron, you may want to try SMS Auto Fabrics, in Oregon.  I have been working with them to try and get the correct color carpet for my car which is Turquoise.  SMS is trying to "vat"  dye a light colored German Square Weave (KHM)  to Turquoise.   It's been a long costly process, and we are still not there yet, hoping o get another sample in 2-3 weeks.   The biggest problem they are having for me is that they are trying to vat dye two different colors blue and green to achieve the Turquoise color I need.   One color, beige, may not be as big a problem.  PM me if you want more info.  Alex

i have been looking for 141 Beige for a couple of years now. Havn't found it yet. Most vendors offer parchment (too light) or bamboo (too dark). I had one reputable Mercedes shop tell me that my upholstery was really parchment, but dirty and darkened from age. His credibility went down several notches.

If I don't find suitable material in the near future, I am going to take my seats to a good interior trim shop; have new foam cushions and backs installed and have a couple of punctures repaired from the inside of the skins, then reinstalled.

If you find a suitable beige please let me know.

Thanks for all the help. I can see that the 141 beige was not a popular color. Maybe the easiest thing is to just change the interior to parchment or bamboo if I can't find the original. I will will continue to search though.

Here's an idea...take a look at ALL color swatches for ALL vehicles on the GAHH site and find something as close as you can to your original color. This should widen your choices. They can then produce a 113 interior set from whatever vinyl color you select. Since no one offered 113 (yes that's the color code) bronze any longer, they made up a set for me from a Porsche color. Note in the photos below, the ashtray cover color is original to the car...the balance is the new material
