Neutral Safety Switch Cable

Help Please !

I installed a new neutral safety switch cable and have tried to reconnect it properly with no luck!  How can something so simple be so complex?

Anyway, I have it connected down at the shift linkage on the trans.  My problem is how to correctly connect at the switch end.  What is happening is that as I move the shift lever into gear, the cable seems to "bow", not engaging the various switch positions.  It seems to me that I need to "lock" the outer part of the cable in place on the post, at the switch end.  How do I do this.  I have taken apart (multiple times) the threaded pipe with the 2 nuts on each end, but I just cant figure out how to lock the cable in place.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

It turns out that the metal tube (with external threads for the 2 nuts), also has an internal thread on one end of this tube (pipe).
There is a small section of the cable, black external insullation (~1/4") that is already removed on the new cable (at the switch end).  This exposes the internal metal insullation which look like threads.  All that is needed is to turn the metal tube over the exposed cable end as if you are turning it on a screw.  This provides a snug fit, locking the cable into the metal tube. Now simply slide the tube into the firewall holder (making sure to put the bottom nut on first.  Then put the top nut on slightly.  Adjust the connection by putting the car in reverse (not running) and ensursing that you move the switch level until the backup lights come on.  Snap the cable fitting onto the switch and tighten the nuts.  Your done!
