Its all about the length...

Check the length when you order your tips.  I got some "economy tips" and they are too short and look bad.

I now have "tip envy".

What is the correct length?
175 mm or about 6-7/8 inch.

Thank you for the information. Are the tips supposed to be welded on or crimped on the exhaust?

The ones I have include slight indentations that hold them in tightly place with no welding.

As Kevin writes, you push them on and the indentations keep them in place.
The third photo at AuthenticClassics shows these indents and if you click on Technical Specs you can read:
The Part dimensions are 175mm Length x 45mm Inside Diameter

Another tip about the....tips is that the cut slot fits around the welded rear bracket. The shorter ones may not have this slot and just butt up against the welded bracket. I just installed some from MB and they are perfect!

To roil the topic just a little. Has anyone seen the exhaust tips that have the slightly squared off edge instead of the rolled edge?? At Legends in Monterey, an original owner 250 SL (after undergoing an OMG! restoration) noted the exhaust tips on his car, have a more square edge than the current ones. Unfortunately I do not have any pictures to further explain.

The car is spectacular (restoration done by Hjeltness Restoration in Escondido CA).

Johnny, are you trying to say they were more of an inward roll rather than an outward roll?
