Type III Steering Horn Pad
« on: September 22, 2013, 22:45:52 »
I have read the thorough information on steering wheels and horn pads in the Technical Manual. My question relates to Type III steering wheels on the 280SL.

The Technical Manual says that the Type III wheel has no inner and outer chrome ring, and the centre badge has an MB star surrounded by a single chrome ring embedded in the plastic. I understand this difference vs. a Type II wheel, but am not sure about the centre badges I've seen that seem to have a double ring embedded in the plastic.

I'm seeing lots of 280SLs with what look to be correct steering wheels, but the centre plastic badge seems to have two chrome rings embedded in the plastic. One surrounding the MB star and another around the circumference of the badge (but both seem to be embedded in the plastic and cannot be separated).

Are these correct for the Type III wheel?

Thanks

David

Seems I should have done a bit more searching in the forum.

Achim highlights possible differences in the Type III horn pad and emblem here:
