James, what am I missing here?  Looks like a plane with its nose cone missing?

Simply visual confirmation that MB built engines for the Me109 ;)

I've seen that at Duxford too. I didn't see any barometric compensator though, which was something of a disappointment.

Pre WW II, The early Messerschmitt Bf 109 was actually designed with a Rolls Royce engine in mind, although operational models used  Daimler-Benz Fuel Injected Inverted V12 engines.

I seem to remember reading that the origin of the Daimler-Benz 3 pointed "Mercedes" star was to symbolise
that they made Engines for Land, Sea and Air use. Interestingly BMW originated as an Aero company,  and the BMW "roundel" is in fact a stylised Propeller - now much modified.

They have a Spanish built Me109 (I think it is) at Duxford with an RR engine in it. RR were allowed to sell the the Spanish who couldn't get engines from Germany to put in the planes they built under licence!
