230SL Indicator and wiper switch
« on: October 14, 2013, 03:32:01 »
Howdy folks,

It seems the early 230SL type combination switch is a little hard to come by for RHD cars. Can anyone tell me whether the LHD switch will fit the RHD cars?

It looks like it will, but the markings on the switch will be upside down. This is no problem as it is better than a dilapidated switch currently in place.

thanks,
Trent

I fitted a LHD stalk to my RHD 1964 230SL a couple of months ago. The only thing wrong is the logo of the windscreen wiper is upside down, but being a logo rather than letters it doesn't bother me at all.

I fitted a new one as the original one would not auto cancel the indicators properly. The new one works as it should.

I own a couple of RHD cars myself (but they are M.G. rather than M-B) so I am always on the lookout for replacement RHD compatible bits.  So the natural next question that occurs to me that our RHD compatriots might want an answer to from some of our "hands on" experts is:  Is it possible and practical to switch the outer casing with the correct RHD markings from the old RHD switch to the new LHD switch!

I think this would be difficult because the two halves of the casing are fused together.
