They're still out there
« on: October 17, 2013, 20:40:04 »
I have recently come across two nice original Pagodas that were in storage for 20 plus years.  The first is a 89,000 mile 1968 250SL serial number 3440 which is papyrus white with medium blue tex.  Other than a bit of paint work on the left front fender, this car is all original with the original soft top in the well.  This car I bought and I am re-commissioning it as I write this.  It has had new points, new plugs, new cap, new calipers and hoses and all new hoses belts and fluid changes.  So far it runs great.

The second one I found is a less than 15,000 mile 1967 250SL that came to the states from Switzerland. (still has Swiss plates on it)  This car is totally unmolested.  It is 050 white with caviar MB tex interior.  It is a manual 4 speed.l

Unfortunately, the lady owner has had it in storage for well over 20 plus years and will not sell it.  I would buy this car if she wanted to sell it.  No pictures as I did not have my phone or camera with me.  But I can tell you all the clamps, and hoses are all original  The four tires on the ground (all flat) are very early Dunlops SP 57's.  It has the original Phoenix spare.

So, they are still out there,  I have found three just this summer and I am not even looking for them.

The lady owner is about 65 years old.  She drives  a big block 1966 Corvette, so she's still, young at heart.  She knows nothing about Pagodas.  She recently saw mine and that started her to thinking about the car she has tucked away.  She needs to sell it, but sh's not budging so far.

Perhaps this was a good one?...

Ad stated: "Original unrestored Pagoda SL in exceptional condition. You will not likely find a straighter, cleaner, rust-free example of this classic Mercedes-Benz. Finished in (050) over Bamboo M/B tex w/ Tan soft-top"

Not enough photos and the subject line didn't even include 280SL to pull in more searches. If it is nice, it would be a good buy.

Anyone here?
