What's the correct color for the Wiper Motor?

What is the correct color for the wiper motor? Did it change over time?

I've always thought the body should be a satin black and the cover should be bare metal/silver, but an elderly friend of mine recently said he thought it was all black. Perhaps it was different on earlier models, re-built units, or on non-Pagoda Mercedes.

Here's a photo of one snatched off the Web just to help visualize the part:

Douglas,

The wiper motor on my '70 280SL (# 15,xxx) is bare metal (silver), base inclusive.  It is mounted to the body with three cad-plated socket head cap screws.

An interesting thing to note is that mine does not have any torque stripe markings on the 2 flat head machine screws located on top of the cylindrical section.  This contradicts the blue torque stripe markings I saw on Hatch & Sons’ restored 280SL shown at Starfest.  However, I've never seen torque stripes on any other 113's wiper motor screws--the professionally restored examples go a little overboard with the torque striping.

If you're looking for a trend, my '67 230SL (#018272) has a bare metal motor just as described in SL113fan's message.
