History write up of a 230 SL that rolled off the assembly line in 1963

Nice car. It would easily gain in the look if the fuel cap and the gear shift knob were changed, in the first case for a chromed one and in the second case for a white ball to match the wheel

Since we rarely see RHD cars around here, I noticed something different on this one. If you look at the gas pedal you will notice a shield placed over the carpet on the right inner sill. Is this a factory part? I see can why they would have placed it there because carpet wear would have been very high in that area.

Thats how they come and here is new carpet provided by KHM with the protective piece.

And the sill is modified in that area too to accommodate the driver's foot on the gas pedal. RHD sills are NLA from any supplier and I have to modify LHD ones when restoring this area of the car. It's not straight forward as the jacking point is different too.
