Where are our cars happiest!?
« on: December 06, 2013, 22:50:22 »
As I'm sure you all know, each car has a certain speed and terrain at which they're happiest. For my land cruiser, it's 35 on a dirt and mud trail. For my lovely sl though, it's at 65-70 on a windy concrete road
What about y'all's?

I don't pay much attention to the speedo except to see how much I am speeding and try to determine the amount of the fine if I get caught - my car wants to run at 105-110 kph  -  too bad the speedlimit is 90 kph.

Louie, I think this is a great question. The harder it is to pick a sweet spot for a car, the better the car's overall shape is, I think. So far, not much more than 10000 km since Dan rebuilt the engine, I like my Pagoda best at about 95km/h. On a straight road. Uphill or downhill doesn't seem to make any difference.

Any speed on any road - with my bride beside me, wind in my hair, sun in my eyes, and bugs in my teeth!  (Well, forget the bugs, but at least you know that I'm smiling the whole time I'm behind the wheel!)

I have a 3.69 Rear End if that makes any difference to my last post.

I was on my way to a car show a couple of years ago early in the morning at dawm. Driving down the Pennsylvania turnpike, no traffic on the road, I Iooked down to my speedometer. The needle was pointing straight up and the car was just humming along happy as can be. I thought in my mind I was going 60 MPH as that is where the needle position on my newer daily driver car is. I traveled along for a while liking how the car was performing and  keeping an eye on the stright up speedometer pointer. I decided that I had better put on my reading glasses just to confirm my speed as I didn't think the numbers looked just right. I was surprised to see my speed as 80 MPH (129 KPH). I decided to slow down a little but was happy with her performance and smooth ride at 80.

That's the engine speed where the cam really starts to work and those long intake runners start to do their stuff.

I'll be in Lomdon Sat morning if you and PJ want to meet up with me. I intend to stay away from the cornner of Sarnia Rd and Wonderland - the scene of my recent ass kiss. :( ( rear end collsion for those not familliar with Cunuck speak )
