Accelerator Linkage questions
« on: December 12, 2013, 03:42:28 »
Gentlemen,
I have an early 250SL with auto and am reassembling everything following an engine bay restore.
One question I am unclear on is the length of the vertical linkage rod between the lower pivot block and the upper manifold pivot. I have been through the Linkage Tour but it only states:

" Make certain that the linkage rod between the block pivot and the intake manifold (not shown) is correct before tampering with the accelerator pedal adjustment", but does not say what "correct" is.

Is there a specific or preferred length of the vertical  linkage rod between the lower pivot block and the upper manifold pivot?

Thanks

Jeff

Hello Jeff,

That dimension is not critical. At full throttle the kick down on the  floor should be depressed and the venturi should be nearly full open. Usually turns out to be around 140mm in length.

Sorry to be pedantic Joe but is that 140mm between centres or 140mm end to end?

Good point, yes, between centers. This is not a critical dimension. Proper function is what is important here. You can use this dimension to get you close then check for proper function.
