230SL Rear Main Seal Replacement
« on: August 08, 2004, 13:20:57 »
Hi,

Has anybody ever attempted to replace the rear main seal on a 230SL without removing the engine?

Just wanted to ask the question -- before I spend hours trying and then end up removing the engine after all.

Thanks -- David

Hello dbenz,
Both halves of the rope seal are pinned, so the top half (in the block) cannot be removed without first taking the crankshaft out!
