Tell me what you know.

This car has had some body work. No fender spot welds, no paint runs under the hood (bonnet). A mediocre respray some years ago.

Some rust in each foot well.

I'd recommend reading a bit more before asking…

To tell what I know... I am afraid I may know too much, so I prefer to remain silent, so it cannot be used against me ;)

Well...you are correct about the lack of paint runs, spot welds,  You know more than most.

The car doesn't run. Turns over quite well. Siphoned the tank to check the gas. It's the color of varnish. No wonder. It,s going to a shop to have all fluids changed including a flush of the fuel system. That should do it. I have some receipts for some serious work. Fuel injection pump being one of them. It has a very new looking soft top but I don't think it had ever been dropped into it's home behind the cockpit, because when I tried to do it wouldn't go down all the way. Have to work on that. My 280SL had it's hard top removed when I brought it home and the soft top was only up to support the cover in winter and if I got caught in the rain. Probably will do the same thing here. My 280SL had hardened valve seats. This one doesn't. Any consensus on the use of fuel additives?

Photos!

And go to the wiki. Unless your 'shop' knows the cars well, it may pay you to take some printed matter to the mechanic. There's some sterling advice on getting a non-runner prep'd for starting, then servicing, etc.

James:  I just finished re-commissioning a 250SL that sat for 15 yers.  I was lucky as the fuel system was fine.  Needed brakes all hoses and a major tune up.

I live in Aurora Ohio.  If that's near you, I could come and take a look.

BTW, all SL's have aluminum heads so they all had hardened seats in the head.

Update, Runs, thanks to some advice from Joe Alexander. Test drive resulted in a rather loose shifter. I found all 6 gears but 2nd to 3rd was not so easy. Bushings ordered. Should be here this week.
