I'd never heard of it but having followed the link I've ordered it. Will let you know in due course what I think.

The book arrived today and it looks to be very comprehensive.
160 spiral bound A4 pages with lots of photos and is written by a laymen although an obviously competent one.
The writer also offers to assist by email in the event that there are any questions.
It'll be some while before I get to digest it fully but at first glance it looks excellent.

Any more thoughts about this book? Where would you get the specs to set up the Mercedes IP and could you build a test stand? Are parts available to repair the Mercedes pump using this book?

Although some might be able to do this job, it's not a good idea to leave everyone with the notion that it's easy or even possible to do. There is a sizable investment involved here that only those with the intent of repeating the process, in other words a commercial business, should even consider. Learning more about how these pumps work isn't a bad idea but it's not for everyone.

I agree with Don, there are certain components one should not disassemble one should leave it to a specialist. There are certain components one simply removes and ships out to a specialty shop for repairs and or refurbishment. I've done so for years on large rotating equipment (steam and gas turbines, control systems etc). Why would I let one of my millwrights play with it and in the end it would not work or fail on start up. Hydraulic actuators and specialty valves come to mind. We simply removed those components, shipped them out and had them repaired by people that do it as there business. Just my 2 cents.

while I appreciate your comments about what one should do and not do I suggest you both read again what I asked at the beginning?

Did you two read the book??
The only one who responded was Stick and now I simply asked to give us the promised update.
No need to take out the school master's ruler and hit our knuckles!

Alfred, it was not my intention to play the school master. Sorry if this is the way you saw or read my post.

No I have not read the book and have no plans to do so. Stick purchased and is reading/looking at the book. From what I know he is in business with his staff working on our cars and properly purchased the book to make the information available to his staff if he finds it valuable.

I just happen to agree with Dan based upon my experiences of over 35 years of field experience. So I posted to share the fact that taking such complex items apart without the know how may not lead to a good ending. In short I posted what I did post to share and that is all.

My apologies if my written word is misinterpreted as said it was not my intention.

Altough your question was asked only specifically to UK members, i will give you my answer:

I bought the book for future use , so have not read it yet ,but its very detailed with step to step pictures.
it also has directions to build your own test rig.
