.4 ohm Resistor?
« on: August 09, 2004, 11:18:25 »
:?: What is the purpose of this resistor?  Looks like its part of the ignition system.  Sits close to the coil.
I took mine out this weekend (was rusty).  After polishing it, noticed that I must have knocked something loose on the inside of the small cylinder.

Kind regards,
Bob

Your talking about the .4 ohm resistor.  It is part of the ignition system and it sits between the ignition switch and transistorized ignition box under the battery tray.  You can use a multi-meter to make sure it works.

Thanks Jeff,

Mine actually attaches to the interior side wall.  What is its purpose?

Bob,

When I said "sits" I meant from a wiring perspective not physical location.  A resistor provides resistance to the current in the circuit by opposing the flow of electrons which it dissipates as heat.  Its part of the circuit design.
