Amelia Island Cars & Coffee
« on: March 09, 2014, 01:30:30 »
I spotted a nice Pagoda here at the Amelia.

It was a spectacular blue sky day with a temperature of 75F and a gentle sea breeze here on Amelia Island, Florida today.  Tomorrow is the 19th Annual Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.  Today was the second annual Cars & Coffee event.  It attracted nearly 200 cars from local car clubs and individuals.  This event is free to the public and was just a treat for the eyes.  There were everything from customized '34 Ford Coupes, and classic Lincolns to Lamborghinis and about 35 Corvettes from 1954 to 2014.

In the middle of all of this was an absolutely gorgeous, one-owner 1965 230SL.  It is a beautiful kind of light metallic gold.  The fellow who owns it is Wayne Clements who drove down from South Carolina to show the car.  He bought it in Germany in 1965.  He had never heard of our web site so I wrote it down for him.  He says he's having cold start problems.  I told him this is the place for tech help.  I hope we'll welcome him to the forum soon.

There were also a Ponton convertible, a Finback, a sharp 28SE 2-dr Coupe, a 190, and an assortment of other Mercedes.

Tomorrow, to open the Amelia, Jochen Mass will drive his Lemans winning Mercedes onto the show field.  I have met the gentleman who is delightful and possibly the funniest German I've ever had the pleasure to meet.

One owners are rare as hen's teeth. Thanks for finding another and hope Mr. Clements will share his story with us soon.
