VIN colour, trim and country codes
« on: March 20, 2014, 15:02:44 »
Hello,

I am new to this!

I am looking at purchasing a '68 280SL. VIN 113 044 12 006104. The vin tells me it originated LHD auto, I attach an image of the plate on the inner wing which has several numbers on it, some duplicated. Can anyone clever out there tell me how much information I can get from this plate and VIN? what I really want to know is it's original country of origin and paint and interior colour codes.

Any guidance gratefully received

Kevin

Kevin,

Nice to hear from you! Try going to the main page of this site and enter "Body Number Plate" into the Search Function. LOTS of discussion here!

This plate does not have your full VIN number but does include information on some of the basic options of the car. Also, check out our "Technical Manual" tab. Here's some detail on that..

I can tell you off hand that 491 means a US spec car and 576 G twice means that the body and hard top are the same color...Glasurit Red Metallic

Good luck with the car!
