I just got a phone call from a friend who lives in southwest Poland. His relatives bought an old far estate in the countryside some weeks ago. Upon checking their new home, to their great surprise, they found a dusty car in their barn. After some clean up, my friend discovered that it was a Mercedes. To cut his long story short, he found a Pagoda that, except for dust and flat tires looks in excellent state. He said that both tops are there.
I asked my friend some question and based on his answers it appears to be a very early 230 model, in metallic blue with parchment interior. The HT is creamy white. In the areas he cleaned up, the paint and chromes are in excellent condition. It seems to be a Euro model. The counter shows a bit over 18000 km.
When he asked around, the neighbors told him an amazing and tough to believe story. It appears that a German couple went to Poland in late ‘60s in this car. Due to a dispute between them, the lady dropped the keys of his bellowed car into a well. The guy went berserk and left. She followed a few days after. The car was left abandoned and they never came back to claim it back. It was stored in the barn and forgotten until discovered by the relatives of my friend.
I should be able to post some pictures that my friend promised to send once he gets back to Internet covered area.
If the car proves to be as original as this story, this would have been a sensational discovery of the year.
