Scott,

I got some tags from these guys(Stoddard Porsche parts) a few years ago, quality is good but they are not correct for the horns on the pagoda if you look close. It came as part of a kit to refurbish these horns with chrome screws etc. Not sure if they still sell the kits or just the tags seperately.

For what it's worth, here are photos of the original tags on mine which are slightly different then what the vendors are offering.

Check out Authentic Classics as they are very nice.

Leave it to Authentic Classics. Great products, affordable prices, and generally spot on. I'll say that even Stoddard got it wrong…the tags they reproduced, though nice, are even incorrect for the horns on the Porsches they are supposed to be for!

My pristine restored horns will get the Authentic Classic tags this summer…if not sooner!

The horn tags from authenticclassics appear to be for the European models. I don't see tags with 290 and 345HZ. I would like these if anyone knows a source.

Will, the 12/10 designation is 345Hz, and the 12/9 is 290Hz; see the original page from the Bosch horn catalog. Can't tell you whether every horn on every USA model were those specific frequencies, or whether the horn tags were the same. I do know that of several sets of "original" Bosch horns I've found on various years of our cars, the tags differed slightly. One original horn tag on one original horn I had was pretty simple; see photo. On another horn that Peter Lesler has, the tag contained a bit more information, like the ones from Authentic Classics. The USA horns should probably read 12/3 and 12/4…which are the same 290/345 frequencies, but make different designations. The 12/9 and 12/10 indicate "France" but I think Alfred translated this once before and it has more than that in meaning...

The Stoddard ones are all wrong, being for a 6V horn...

Michael,

Authentic Classics also has the 12/3 and 12/4 badges. George is great!

My car is  late 1971 (Built Feb 71) and shows the 290 and 345 Hz tags. Micheal, I a agree the French HZ are the same but the US models show 290 and 345 on the plate. Well at least on mine.

Heres one of the tags offered by Stoddard. My guess is that it's for a 12v car.

BTW The horn tags on my US 1968 280 SL VIN# ..1022 are identical to the ones 49er showed.

I also checked my 280 SL,  VIN ending 12730 and the tags are identical to those from 49er.

Speaking of horns... I like to do an occasional "horn check" when I go though a tunnel or underpass with a few toots, especially with the top down. I now make sure I alert my navigator in advance as she nearly jumped out of the seat ( thank goodness for seat belts) the first time I "tested" the horns  without warning:)
