Driver/passenger glass in February 250SL
« on: May 12, 2014, 01:15:10 »
Hi,
My 250SL has tinted door glass on the passenger side and clear on the driver side and they have the same builders mark, the windshield is tinted. Did the factory ship the cars like this? It seems odd that the drivers glass is not tinted unless of course it was left clear for perceived safety reasons.

Thanks,
Jim

They were either ordered with one or the other.  Appears that one has got broken along the way.  Your Data Card will tell you which one is the correct one against the options codes found in the Tech Manual.

Thanks for the help Garry! I'll check my data card and order replacement glass accordingly.

Where in the tech manual does it show you the code locations for glass? I found some numbers for a 230SL but I cannot locate them on a data card nor could I find numbers for a 250SL. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Thanks,
Jim

Check whether your data card shows code 226, or 227, or 228, or 229.
See: http://www.sl113.org/wiki/DataCard/OptionCodes
This site http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~mtor/mbcodedsc.html
will also show you the dates when these codes were valid.

Wouldn't it just be simpler to check whether tinted or clear on the rest of the glass in the car?  :D  Hoping that the majority would be what the car came with. (??)

I have a nice used tinted passenger door window for sale if that's the way that you decide to go.
