W113 280 SL Injection pump
« on: May 18, 2014, 15:39:14 »
Hello All,

I've seen in our SL113 technical section that the Pagoda seems to have as injection pump the following number : PES 6 KL 70 B 120 R24W (in addition to all the numbers in the table).

But this information seems to be contradicted by the Koellner site and some others such as Pagode Info.

Is anyone able to confirm that this IP number (i.e. : R24W) has really been fitted on Pagoda and not only on Sedan cars?

Currently My 280sl 1970 is fitted with a R23 suffix injection pump number.
Do you know the differences between R23 and R24W types?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards from France.
Vincent.

Hello Vincent,

There is a good break-down of the different injection pumps on page 07-0/3 of the BBB (factory workshop manual).  This information is also a "July 1973" supplement to the manual, so unless your manual is up-to-date with all the supplements, you may not have it. According to this supplement, the "R-24W" was used on 280SL/8 with Sweden exhaust emission control year of manufacture 1971, as of engine number 005 302.  The "R23" injection pump was fitted on 280SL/8 and 300SEL/8 cars. The test output values for setting up the two pumps is different. Most likely the R24W is set-up different to meet the Sweden emissions regulations. I suspect either would work on an M130 engine, the R23 may provide a bit more power than the other?

Here is a page out of the magazine "The Mercedes Collector" issue number 6 dated March 1993 which shows the progression of the six plunger pumps from the R11 through the R24W (for those that want to know).

Hello, I have a 250sl Italian version and my injection pump is Pes 6kl 70 b120 r22 model. I’m wondering if is the original one for the 250 or maybe was a replacement .
