Wiper motor relay 0005426819
« on: June 09, 2014, 20:41:32 »
Hi.
I cannot turn off the wipers once started. I believe the error lies within the wiper motor relay 0005426819 since if I disconnect the relay and then connect it the wipers will stay off until I turn them on again.
Does anyone know if its possible to clean the relay inside and how to dismantle it? I have cleaned the connector pins on the relay but not yet the female connector side.
Thanks
/Peter

Hi Peter!
It´s still possible to buy this relays from Mercedes if you can´t fix it, the price is around 50 euro according to Mercedes classics spare part search.

It couldbe the contacts in your stalk switch too.  I've had to push mine many times to start and many times to stop.  It doesn't go out in the rain much.

Hi.
Starting using the car again has made this question valid again.
You mention stalk contacts.
Where do I find these?
Best Regards
Peter

You need to disassemble the stalk mechanism. See pictures attached.
There are contacts inside the black Bakelite end cover also, hard to get to. These contacts govern start-stop and wiper speed high or low.
I have modified photos which I borrowed from the web

NLA - exactly.
Sources: need to search the forum, depends on what you look for (original look, original functionality, etc.). Not easy to get. In my view it is worth having better functionality with intermittent work.

You may want to check the motor itself. I seem to recall having this issue years ago and it turned out to be a dirty contact plate on the motor assembly. As I recall there is an interrupt mechanism on the pinion side of the motor that slides on a contact plate. If the plate is covered with dirt of grease it will not operate correctly

I have replaced the older relays with newer versions.  I did this by carefully opening up the old relay and mounting the new relay inside .  I then used spade type connectors on the new relay and soldered the other end to the appropriate round pin.  Then put the old base back in the can and crimpt the edge or the aluminum cover.   This way it looks original but is new inside.  I believe I posted pictures of this back in 2008 or 2009.  Still working fine today

I have search for jeffc280sl's description of replacing the internals of the wiper relay to no avail. Can anyone point me to that? Thanks!

Make sure you have a good ground on the system. I've seen many problems that ended up being bad contacts or no ground. More likely to be already discussed problems but I tend to look at everything.

I ended up using what this gentleman is providing - with increased functionality - and I am happy now.

When I had this problem I also removed the fuse, but that has the down-side of disabling the horn.  So I sold the car.  Well, I didn't sell it for that reason lol.
