I decided to replace the rubber mounts on my original fuel pump bracket since they were showing signs of wear. When I removed the bolts retaining the bracket, I was surprised to find that they appear to be brass? Unfortunately, one of the lock washers, possibly brass, was broken.
Is this bracket made completely out of brass? If so, I would assume since brass does not conduct electricity? However, is there a true necessity for this bracket to be made out of anything other than steel? I will need to at least replace the lock washer. Is it safe to use a steel lock washer?
Also, after looking at the bracket more carefully (stronger glasses), it looks as if the nuts on the top have either been epoxied or spot welded in place. Anyone have a good way to remove the old rubber supports without destroying them?
TIA
