Slow blinker
« on: July 15, 2014, 11:25:12 »
Hi,

I have a problem with indicator blinker.

When I conect left side they blink fast, when I conect right side they blink slow and when I conect hazard lights the four lights blink fast.

Any clue?

Thanks in advance.

Check the lamps (bulbs) installed in the system to assure that they are the proper size (wattage).  A power usage that is more or less than the designed normal will cause the flasher unit to operate at different rates.

Fast blinking is indicative of a burnt out bulb, or replacement with LED bulbs.  Basically it isn't drawing enough current.
Post a picture of your blinker switch.

If it's like the one in a 1971 114, fast or slow blinking can also be indicative of the switch/relay being bad, in which case the solution is to replace the switch/relay.  Not sure if a 71 113 has the same switch/relay, as my car is a 1967, but I can tell you from a picture of the switch.

Two more questions.

There are different blinker relays for indicators and hazard, or is the same can?
Correct bulb size in wats is 18w?

Thank you!!

It depends on the model. In 230SL the hazard/emergency flasher has its own flashing circuit separate from the turn signal flasher. On later 280SL cars they are combined.

Don't forget to consult the technical manual!  ;)  http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Electrical/TailLights
18W in 230SL and 21W in 280SL
Which model do you have??
Alfred
1964 230SL manual 4-speed 568H signal red
1966 230SL automatic 334G light blue (sold)
1968 280SL automatic (now 904G midnight blue)

Hi,

Mine is 1969 280sl.

Answers to my questions.

There are two blinkers one built in the hazard swicht and the other in aluminum can for indicators.

One of the bulbs was 21 watts.

Problem solved!!!

Thanks to all for your information.
