what is this?

I am new to this forum, although I am now on my second W113, and fourth SL
For the life of me I cannot find out what this is (see pic)
In the owners manual, it just identify it as "S: without explanation
When you lift the flap, it looks like a cigar lighter socket
I guess its a plug in for a lioght for use when one is fixing the car

I like to know

a. what is it? What is the proper name for it
b. if it does act as an electrical source, is there an OEM light for it
c. If there is a plug in accessory, does anyone have a part number and a source to get one?

The mysterious socket is for a trouble light. Hard to find - occasional on EBay.

I have seen in then in brown bakealite (sp). The plug as you will not is smaller than the cigarette light plug.

Maybe someone can post a picture of one.

I bought mine on ebay from Germany for about $60US.  Wanted to have one.

Come in bakalite and plain metal.

Used in Mercedes, VW, and Porsche(?).

Mine has 20 ft of cable.

The plugs are available widely, and there is continuous power on the circuit. I actually use it to connect my battery trickle charger to the electrical system. Some cigarette lighter plugs have a tip that twists off, so you can use them in the small as well as regular size sockets. I used to have a boat that used this small size power sockets.
