Born Again Benz: Where were you when you rolled to 00000?
« on: August 11, 2014, 13:07:28 »
Just rolled by Odometer to 00000.  Thgught it would be a fun topic.

I was driving back from playing a round of golf Sunday, 8/10/2014, when I had to pull over and snap pics of the roll.

Seriously, why obsessing with mileage?
Drive the car and suddenly, it becomes new again!

I know the feeling Mike,

Milage milstones are a good reason to get the camera out, they will probably only happen once whilst the car is in our custodianship. :D Here is my 50k flip on the way home form the 50th celebrations.

Mercedes thought they were so important that they gave out enamal badges to celebrate. ;D

They handed out pins to customers whose cars made 100,000 or 200,000 kms. See photo. Nowadays that is not very special anymore. My daily driver has 215,000 km's, feels like new, has no rust, and is over 10 years old. I'm going to keep it for another 100,000 kilometers because that's when some of the expensive repairs start coming in again. But they did not give me a pin. I reckon you need to do 500,000 km's now to make it special.

I picked up the pins below at a memorabilia auction

I would have been near home in December 2012 when my 230SL reached 100,000 miles. Like others, I couldn't resist a photo  :)

As an aside, I took a photo of my old Saab when it reached 123, 456 miles - as it also had a trip distance of 789.0 at the same time  :) :)

Amazing, another 334G turning 100K, yours, Garry's and mine.  :)
Indeed it is one of the most appealing MB colors.
It happened on Feb 20, 2013 at 3:03 PM CST near Dell Dios.

Just to say the obvious, those of us with Kilometer instruments will have the 00000 rollover
sooner and more often then our Mile cousins.

People ask me how many miles on the car, I really don't know since each all zero click-over is
about 62,000 miles and I don't know how many times this has happened since 1969.

Here is the Kilo dash from the Italian Stallion showing mid-60,000 K's.

It was a bit difficult going 110 kilometers/hour and holding the smartphone steady at the same time, hence the photo is a bit blurred… :-)
Was just on my way home from a meeting, no special place, no special time - except for my 1964 230SL reaching 100.000 kms…

I won't happen while I own it.  62k miles now and about 45K when my dad bought it in the late 70's.

My 100,000m was 10 years ago
On the M1 heading back to London from a trip to Birmingham. I decided the best way to see in that milestone was to be doing 100mph.

No photos, sorry

Still waiting. When I bought the car it had sat for 24 years and I had it carted off for restoration of the body 8 years ago so a total of 32 years of not being driven..
