Auto Transmission Filler Tube
« on: August 29, 2004, 13:48:02 »
Hi Folks,

Looking for original finish information for the automatic transmission filler tube.  Mine was "CAD" plated in the restoration, however during some trans work a year ago they neglected to double wrench it and twisted it at the base to the point of cracking.  I have a replacement from MB that's painted black.  What's the correct finish?  Black or gold CAD?

The correct finish is the gold "cad" plating or zinc dichromate. I think MB is getting away from these original finishes due to environmental concerns (both "cad" & zinc dichromate processes use toxic compounds)
