280sl Water pump pully bolts

I just replaced my water pump and the new one has a long shaft so I can no longer use the spacer, which is fine. But the bolts I have are now too long. I called MB for short bolt but I was told they can't be ordered. I want to use correct bolts with the small heads. The size quoted by MB is M6 x 14 (about 1/2" long). Part # N914 008 006 003. Anyone have 4 old ones they are willing to part with??

Welcome to our group.  Hopefully, one of our members can help you out on this.  If not, check with your local salvage yards.  Those bolts were used on many Mercedes in the 60's 70's, and 80's.  A pull your own part salvage yard would be my 1st stop.

The water pumps used to be available as both short shaft and long.  You should be able to exchange the incorrect one you now have for the shorter original one.

I just redid my cooling system. If someone is looking for these short bolts, you can find them online. The spec is: flanged hex head bolts, M8X1.25X16 with 10MM head. They seem to be used in motocross bike applications. I found the ones below on ebay and am showing a comparison between the original bolt and the replacement. The flange is a little larger but this didn't cause a problem. I had to replace mine because I damaged the heads while removing them.

The only other thing you would need to check when using after market bolts is the hardness. If I recall the originals are class 8, and so one would also need to check that the motor cross ones were the same hardness.  Check for the markings on the bolt head.

Lowe's have a good collections of metric bolts all grades, sizes and type of thread. Take yours to the hardware department, they will match it with the length you are looking for. You will save $$$$. I buy most of my metric needs from Lowe's.
