On the recent journey to the Pagoda SL Group European Event 2014, which coincided with the Goodwood Revival, even the journey there was an adventure due to the large number of classic cars to be spotted on the way. At the Calais Channel Tunnel entrance, we spotted this roadster. Jon B pointed out that it was weird and used Mercedes SL dashboard instruments. I spotted a Volvo logo on the shark fin. The nose had an "Ockelbo" logo. See the photographs.
At home I googled for this car and found that is was a
1953 Ockelbo Volvo Sports racer. It really is a weird and wonderful mix of car: and Austin Healy chassis, a body moulded after a Ferrari Mondial 500, a B-18B Volvo engine bored out to 2 liters and Mercedes SL instruments. Enjoy!
For those who read Dutch or are handy with Google Translate, here is the story of the barn find and restoration in Dutch…
