Pain(t)less Dent Removal

Does anyone have any experience with Paintles dent removal?  Here in Germany everyone swears by this technology -- and I will see tonight how it's worked on my 3.0CS.  But the Pagoda doors are particularly sensitive to dings -- and I have two that I would like to remove.  Can anyone provide their experience?

Hi Lowpad,
Only thing I can think of is to remember that your Pagoda has aluminium door panels not steel, so it tends to "behave" differently to steel when damaged. if the paintless system uses magnets then your kind of stuffed!

How old's your 3.0CS? I am on the look out for parts for my 1974 3.0Csi, especially body panels, repair panels, inner sills etc. If you have any contacts please let me know

It all depends on the technician. I've had 4 differant cars worked on, including 3 113s, all with fantastic results. There's absolutely no evidence of the dents. I use the company our local Mercedes dealer uses. Money well spent! Mark-Seattle

I agree with everything said about this technique in this thread. I've used it on a 3.0CS and a 280SL and was extremely pleased with the results. As always, the key is to use someone who knows what he's doing. A referral from a fellow enthusiast with the same car always helps.

CS is 1974 -- has 25K original miles, 98% from original owner.  Nice car.  Can't speak to parts in the UK -- perhaps Douglas can help.  Walloth & Nesch in Germany seems to have almost everything you might need.

Can somone explain the dent removal procedure.  It may be helpful for those without the experience have a better idea of what's involved.

The dent removal guys have a set of special tools. Long, thin " Slim Jims" that have a variety of different contours on the end. For example, with doors, they feed the tool down between the window and interior skin of the door and "massage" the dent out from the inside. They don't touch the paint, and you can literelly watch the dent dissapear. Again, it all depends on who's doing the massaging!!

Thanks Lowell. While in the UK I can use Jaymic if I can source even from Germany thats great. I'll see if they have a website

Paintless Dent Removal -- Results: It may not be a suitable indication of what to expect from a W113 door, but the dent removal results on my 3.0CS were beyond my expectations. Other than some small paint surface scuffing, the dents are completely gone and the door surface is again flat.

Next week the SL goes in -- we'll see if they can do as good a job.  According to them Audi TT doors are also out of aluminum (which I am not sure is correct), therefore W113 doors should not be so difficult.

In the hands of a perfessional it takes mere moments to remove door dings in door panels. I have a favorite PDR tech who I have been working with for many years. My first encounter with this service was when A box of two chairs fell forward off a lander from 8 feet and hit the quarter panel of my orginal unrestored 1987 Ford Mustang. I about swallowed my self at looking at the dent I had created I though I justbought my self a paint job.
I ran over to the body shop I use for expensive work and the owner a friend of mind and one of the last great color matchers alive said he wanted to check about a PDR person befor he started graining away at my factory paint.
a week later a young gentelman came over and as I watched hoping and praying to the big car gods in the sky. He before my eyes with a little heat from a heat gun and some special roads fineesed out the dent then tapped down some high spots with a special cone and plastic tip hammer.
Except for a micro chip it was like nothing happened errasing my night mare.
Yes it works 98.9% of the time as long as the paint is not badly chiped and there is access to the dent my experence make a beleiver out of me. By the way allumiun is much tuffer to take dents out of than steal panels.

A cat got into my garage and was locked in over a weekend back in April or May.  Wneh I got home on Sunday Evening and opened the garage door an orange furr ball erupted from the garage dor as it opened.  Then I spied one of my Coleman coolers sitting on the hood of my 230SL!  Made two not so small dents , one on the flat part and one on the bulge.  I had to remove the hood for the guy , but my PDR tech was able to make them go so completely away that you can't even tell from the underside that it was worked on.

Here's my 2 cents worth!  Paintless dent repair is only as good as the person doing the work.  If I were in need of someone here in the U.S. I'd call the various new car dealers.  Whatever name would come up most often that's the one I would use.
